Utfyllende informasjon
Hi, my dog and I are looking for somewhere to live from the beginning of August. We’ll be moving from Bergen in early August or late July (I’m still finalising the dates), as I’ll be starting a three-year postdoc at UiT.
I’m originally from the UK and have lived in Norway for eight years. I completed my graduate studies here and graduated from my PhD in 2025. I have a good knowledge of Norwegian (B1), and my goal is to become fluent during my time in Tromsø, so I’ll be taking classes again. For now, I mainly speak English due to limited practice (and a bit of shyness), so anyone I live with should be comfortable with English, at least initially.
I’ve lived alone for most of the past eight years. While I’m open to continuing that, and would like to hear about one bedroom hybels/apartments too, I think it would be nice to share a home with an other/others.
I’m quiet, tidy, and like to keep my living space cosy. Arnold, my whippet, is seven years old (born November 2018). He’s also quiet and well behaved, but he should be the only male dog in the household to avoid potential issues. He could potentially live with a female dog. He can be protective of his snacks, so we’d need a few ground rules to make sure the dogs live well together. He gets along with female dogs around his age, but puppies or very young dogs wouldn’t be a good fit. He also can’t live with cats or small animals due to his high prey drive.
In Bergen, I’ve been able to take Arnold to work with me, and I hope that will be possible at UiT, though I don’t know yet. For now, it’s best to assume he’ll be at home during the workday. Though, for his sake, I will be looking into dog daycare at least a couple of days a week if he cannot come to my office.
Outside of work, I spend a lot of time walking with Arnold. I enjoy sports and am interested in training for the Midnight Sun Marathon. I like going to cultural events as well. I used to DJ a bit and am especially into experimental and less mainstream music across genres. I’ll be bringing my vinyl collection with me, if that is something you are interested in I am happy for it to be for communal use. I also enjoy cinema and watch a wide range of films (here’s my Letterboxd username if you’re curious: Arnoldaloha). I’m also very interested in mushrooms, especially foraging, learning about them, and cooking with what I find.
I’d like to live with someone who values their own space but also enjoys spending time together, both inside and out of the house. Since I’ll be new to Tromsø and don’t know anyone, it would be great to live with a person/people open to sharing a bit of their "world" with me.
I’m queer, but I don’t mind who I live with in terms of gender, sexuality, or age, as long as we get along, can be friendly rather than just coexisting, and you’re happy to live with a dog.
I look forward to hearing from you, and I’m happy to answer any questions. I’m sure I’ve missed something!
Rowan and Arnold :)
